Wired Bikes FAQ
How long does the battery last?
Each full charge will get up to 75 minutes of riding, however this is dependent on riding style, mode used and the terrain.
How long does it take to charge?
It will take approximately three hours to charge a Wired Bike battery. Please note if you’ve been riding the bike and the battery is hot when you charge, the charger may not recognise it as empty ie will show a solid green light. Allow the battery to cool (approx 30-45 minutes) and connect the charger. Once the battery is charged, turn it off at the power point to prevent overcharging/overheating.
Will my power tool battery connect to the bike?
No, the Wired Bike battery is exclusively designed for use with Wired Bikes.
I’ve been riding but when I go to charge my battery it is not charging or showing full
If you’ve been riding the bike and the battery is hot when you start a charge, the charger may not recognise it as empty ie will show a solid green light. You will need to allow the battery to cool before charging. Much like a lithium power tool battery, when it’s been used and still warm, the smart charger will not charge it to prevent internal damage to the battery. Allow the battery to cool (approx 30-45 minutes) and connect the charger. It will show the flashing red light to indicate charging. Once the battery is charged, turn it off at the power point to prevent overcharging/overheating.
Why is my Wired Bike not working?
If your Wired Bike is on the lowest setting, you will need to start moving the bike first before the engine starts. This is to ensure younger children are able to gain comfortable speed and balance first with their legs and then allow the electric motor to take over.
Otherwise, check your battery is charged and the connection. Refer to the battery FAQs in this list if you are experiencing charging difficulties.
What is the weight limit for Wired Bikes?
The 16″ balance bike is designed for kids up to 48kg.
The 12″ balance bike is designed for kids up to 35kg.
We do not recommend using the bikes if you exceed these limits as you will damage the motor, rear axle and put excess stress on the drive train, as well as potentially bend/break the foot rest. Improper use of a Wired Bike will void the warranty.
Are there accessories/spare parts available?
Original Wired Bikes
Yes, a full range of spare parts are available including brakes, batteries, forks, chain assemblies, grips, handlebars, tubes, motors, plastic kits, rims, seats, tyres and throttle controllers for 12″ and 16″ balance bikes. Please contact your local AMX Superstores to order.
Mk II Wired Bikes
Spare batteries, brake lever/engine switch, handle bars and crash pads are available with a complete line of spares expected to be available through the end of 2024. This includes brakes, batteries, forks, chain assemblies, grips, handlebars, tubes, motors, plastic kits, rims, seats, tyres and throttle controllers for 12″ and 16″ balance bikes. Each bike comes with a sticker kit to customise the look of each bike.
What do my kids need in order to ride?
It may be a lawful requirement to wear a helmet so we suggest confirming with local laws. As a minimum we recommend an MTB helmet and close-toed shoes. Ideally they’ll have gloves and protective clothing to reduce injury should they have an accident on gravel or bitumen.
Can you attach training wheels?
Yes, however Wired Bikes does not supply or produce them. Ensure they are strong enough to support the weight of your child and the bike. Install as per training wheel manufacturers instructions.
Are the original Wired Bikes still available?
We’ve stopped producing the original Wired balance bikes however they can still be found through AMX Superstores. If you need spare parts for an original Wired Bike, please contact your nearest AMX Superstore.
Why use suspension forks?
Suspension forks are more than an aesthetic design choice, they provide better control of the bike on rough terrain as well as improved front end comfort and feel.
